I come from a wonderful home. My dad is Mexican and my mom is white. They raised me with love, faith, and strong values. My Christian faith remains at the center of my life, guiding me every day.
The moment I met my husband, my life began to change. His culture opened my heart and mind in ways I never expected. I have become more patient, more curious, and more understanding of people from all walks of life. I have learned to appreciate traditions, practices, and flavors that were completely new to me. And yet, they now feel like home.
This isn’t a suit I put on or a mask I wear. I am not appropriating anything. These practices are now a part of me. They have genuinely shaped who I am.
In my early adulting days, I ordered takeout constantly and rarely cooked. Now, home-cooked meals are a source of joy, creativity, and comfort. I can make everything from comforting turmeric chai to bold flavorful curries. My love for Bollywood films has also grown. They give me a new perspective on storytelling, music, and emotion.
Daily habits like hair oiling, sipping hot ginger water, and enjoying turmeric chai have become essential parts of my routine. My bond with my in-laws has also deepened. I cherish the warmth, wisdom, and love I share with them. Even with these changes, I have stayed true to myself, my upbringing, and the values my parents instilled. I have found a beautiful balance. I embrace the richness of another culture without losing my own.
This journey has transformed me in countless ways. It has broadened my horizons, deepened my appreciation for life, and made me more compassionate and adaptable.
Meeting him changed my life. I am so grateful it did. I am not going back. Every practice, every flavor, every relationship, every lesson has made me more whole and more connected to both my roots and the world around me.
