Being a mom is one of the most rewarding experiences, but it can also be exhausting, overwhelming, and draining. Burnout is more than just feeling tired. It is that constant pressure, the guilt, and the sense that no matter what you do, it is never enough. I have been there, and over time I have learned self-care strategies that actually help me survive and even enjoy mom life.
One of the first things I do in the morning is take care of myself, even in small ways. Brushing my teeth, washing my face, and following a quick skincare routine before going down for breakfast gives me a moment to ground myself. It is a little time that belongs to me and ensures I start the day feeling like I still matter even when the day feels overwhelming.
For me, taking walks has been a game changer. Stepping outside, breathing fresh air, and moving my body even for a few minutes helps me reset my mind and energy. I also create small lists of my wins each day. Even tiny accomplishments remind me that I am doing enough and that my efforts are seen, even if it does not always feel like it.
Giving myself grace and not comparing myself to other moms has helped me tremendously. Every mom’s journey is different, and it is easy to feel like you are falling short when you measure yourself against someone else’s highlight reel. Accepting that my best is enough has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders and made me more present for my child.
It took me a while to realize that if mommy is not taken care of, eventually the kids feel it too. Prioritizing my mental and emotional health is not selfish. It is necessary. When I take care of myself, I can be more patient, more loving, and more present for my family.
Small rituals like a hot cup of chai, quiet moments of joy, short bursts of movement, and just a few minutes to breathe help me recharge. Asking for help when I need it and protecting my sleep even in small ways makes a big difference. Mom burnout is real, but it is manageable. Self-care is survival, and a little self-kindness goes a long way.
Ask yourself today, what is one small thing you can do to help yourself as a mom?
